Little Birs with Big Mouths

Here is another one using the set I talked about on monday.  I found this really cool patterened paper sheet by Bo-Bunny that was 12x12 but divided into all these smaller scenes or cut outs.  I knew this one was just perfect for a bird house.

Thanks for stopping by!
More Christmas projects coming tomorrow!
hugs, Melisa

Cards with bird images using Spellbinders Dies

Hello!  I hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving.  We had a wonderful day which wrapped up about 11:00pm with me as the Queen of Canasta!  Yep ...  I took the boys down.  teehee.  And over the weekend I spent saturday with my friend Deb.  She loves mixed media as well, so we worked on our She Art.  I'm going to get brave enough to share my canvas's one day.  Not familiar with She Art ??  It's simple art with a girl on it and some words that are meaningful to you.  I took She Art #1 from Christy Tomlison back in the spring.  If you are interested in mixed media, I recommend the class and you can check it out HERE.  I ended up starting a Christmas themed canvas.  Almost done, just need to add a few more details.  I also picked up some wooden birdhouses at Micheals, hoping to have time to alter them in a Christmas theme.

Today I'm sharing a couple of cards I created using stamp sets by Mark's Finest Papers.  The one above uses an image from a set called Little Birds with Big Mouths.  MFP is going through some changes right now, under new ownership, and honestly, I'm not sure which of the old sets they will be adding back on, or which ones are discontinued.  But, I had already designed my Nov cards back in Oct, so I'm going to share anyway.

This set was in the store last week, but not there now.  It's called Chicken Scratch.  I designed this one using a clean and simple Take Ten sketch for a submission.  I'm also using today for the sketch challenge over at StampTV.  You can check out this weeks Freinds of SpeedyTV challenge HERE.  I hope you will join us!

Have a great week!
hugs,
Melisa

The Warbler ... I love that stamp!

Good Morning!  It's going to be a fabulous day.  My friend Deb is coming over and we are going to spend the day working on techniques we learned from the She Art Class.  It is a fabulous online media class that has tons of background techniques in it.  And Christy is so funny, I really enjoyed the class.

We are also going to work on some submissions for some upcoming calls for Take Ten and Stampers Sampler.  Stampers Sampler has the cutest cupcake template to play along with this time.  We can make it any size and use it however we like.  In every issue they give us a differnet Tempting Template to create with.  You can check out all the previous Tempting Templates HERE.  They also have a call for stamping on special surfaces.  You can check out the details on the Sept. Calls page at the top of my blog.  We'd love to have you join us.  Shoot me an email and I'll send you a copy of the template.  If you play along please let me know when you post your project.

Take Ten just released their Autumn issue and they always have a sketch challenge for their call.  I haven't had time to post that one yet, but it's not due til Oct 15.  They also have a "ink it over" challenge.  This one and all of their regular challenges are always listed in the back of the issue.  If you don't have a copy and want to play along, let me know and I'll send you the sketch.

Remember the deadlines for both Take Ten and Stampers Sampler are the dates they have to be in their office.  No email submissions.

Today I'm sharing a card I made a while back using the Warbler cling art stamp by Layers of Color.  The large cling art stamps that Layers of Color sales are so easy to design with.  And no coloring makes it easy to whip up a card in no time.  I have created many cards with this one, 7 in all!  Probably my most used Layers of Color stamp, besides those bees and butterflies!

Update on my birds ...  I now have 3 feeders up outside my studio window and tons of birds visiting every day!  I enjoy it so much ...  and so does the cat, ha!  He's STILL trying to capture them through the window, along with the Lizards.  I set him up a bed at the end of the table so he can just lay there and watch.

You can check out all of my Warbler cards and other bird projects HERE.

Thanks for letting me share!  And I pray none of you are in the path of Irene.  Please let me know if you have prayer request and I will have the LOC DT pray for you.
big hugs,
Melisa

Time flies ....

Hello Paper Crafters!  How are you all doing??   It's been very busy the last couple of weeks and I can't believe how time has flown by since my last post.  Lots of great things that I'm so very thankful for have been keeping me very busy ...  increased work hours, my daughters visit for 10 days, getting together with a new crafty friend, and  ....  shoving my 23 year old baby bird out of the nest!!  Yep it's official, he has his own apartment.  We are all excited.  My in-laws drove all the way from Georgia to help move him and get him settled in.  What a blessing they are and we are so excited to share this special time with them!  And of course they have spoiled him with a few house warming gifts.  So, it's been a long day of lifting furnature and boxes and with this heat, I'm ready for bed.  But I wanted to get a quick post up first.  Hope you like it!
very tired hugs,
Melisa

Artist Trading Card / Pink Persimmon

I've been busy making ATC's again. Ready to trade??  Artist Trading Cards are fun to make and at 2.5" x 3.5", don't require a lot of resources or time.  If you are new to Artist Trading Cards, you can learn more about them and see a list of resources on one of my older post HERE

I used images from 2 Pink Persimmon stamp sets to create these little works of art.
"Tea and Cake"  is so sweet, and girly, and vintage!  I LOVE it.  It comes with 2 different tea pots, tea cups, and a cake stand.  I used the tea cup images and stacked them on ATC #1.  My daughter had a tea party as a child for one of her birthdays, so I'm thinking this set would be just perfect for a future layout as well.

"Singing Birds"  comes with an arch / frame image and of course, some singing birds.  Oh the possibilities for adding things in the center  ...  big bird's nest,  a tree.  I thought there should be a little bird house dangling from the center so  I created my own for ATC #2.  What would you embellish or add to this image to finish it off ??

*************************************************

Project Details
Stamp Sets : Pink Persimmon "Tea and Cake" and "Singing Birds"
Copic Markers
Spray Ink : Tattered Angels Pink Taffy

Trim black cardstock 2.5" x 3.5" twice.  Trim lined pattern paper slightly smaller.

ATC #1 - Adhere lined paper to black card base.  Spritz doily with pink spray ink, adhere to front of card and trim along edges.  Tie green seam binding and tie bow.  Doodle around edges.  Stamp bottom tea cup on white cardstock.  Stamp tea cup on Eclipse Masking Tape and trim.  Lay tea cup mask over bottom tea cup and stamp tea cup #2 with the bottom of the cup over lapping the top of the bottom tea cup, giving the appearence that is is sitting down in the bottom tea cup.  Remove mask from bottom tea cup and cover tea cup #2.  Stamp tea cup #3 the same way, creating a stack of tea cups.  Remove tea cup mask and color.  Trim image and use raffia to build a little nest by adhering it to the back of the top cup.  Stamp a singing bird, color, and trim.  Adhere tea cup stack and singing bird to front of card.  Print this phrase or one of your own, trim, adhere and doodle around edges.

ATC #2 - Stamp part of the tree frame on the lined paper and color with markers.  Adhere to front of card.  Tie ribbon around bottom border and tie a bow.  Create you own bird house by cutting a square and triangle and adhere to front of card as if it is dangling from a hook in the center.  Doodle around the edges and embellish with rub-ons.  Stamp tea cup and singing bird on white cardstock and color with markers.  Adhere raffia to back of cup to create a nest, then adhere to front of card.  Print this phrase or one of your own, trim, adhere, and doodle around the edges.

I'm having a bee-utiful saturday!

Hello Paper Crafters.  I hope you are all having a fabulous saturday and doing something fun.  I have lots of things I "need" to do.  But I worked some extra hours this week, so I am definitely making time to play as well.  No my husband would totally have said that differently, teehee.  He would have said that I play a lot and he would like for me to make some time to work.  Next week will be very busy as well with work and then my daughter is coming for another visit on thursday!!  Yah!!  She will be here for 11 days and I"m really looking forward to it.  We are going to take a little trip to San Antonio while she's here, so that should be lots of fun.  We haven't really taken the time to explore outside of Houston since we moved here.

So today I'm sharing an ensemble inspired by this week's Moxie Fab Trigger Tuesday.  And I couldn't resist using my "Honey Sweet" art stamp set by Layers of Color.  This is such a fun set with the cutest bee sentiments.  You can check it out HERE.

I have no idea where Cath find's all her inspirational photo's she shares, but I hope she keeps them coming!  I would not look so great in that coat, but I LOVE it.  I love the folds and the shape.  I think it would look awesome in red as well.

... and here is the matching gift bag.  I used the Square Bag 01 large, pre-cut / pre-scored from Creative Cuts and More.  I think if I had added a little black ribbon / bow at the top to tie the handles together it would look better.

I think the Prima Notecard from Flora Fairy just made the card below.  Of course the Warbler image from Layers of Color is the shining star though.

I LOVE birds.  I'm not sure how many times the birds on my bird feeder outside my studio window have made me smile this week.  They are just one of God's most amazing little creatures.  The ones who have been stopping by are so small.  There are a couple of different kinds.  I've been trying to catch a photo, but the fly off as I approach the window.  I need to get my zoom lense out.  I'm thinking aboutr picking up another feeder and putting sun flowers seeds in that one.  I would love to see a red bird sitting outside my window.  Luckily the cats think they have to be in the house at the window to enjoy them.  They haven't figured out that if the jumped the fence and went around to the front of the house, it might be easier to catch one.
I hope you get a chance to enjoy some of God's wonderful creations this weekend!
hugs,
Melisa

My "Bee Mine" ensemble was chosen as a Trigger Target over at Moxie Fab!!!

Birds of a feather ...

Sneek Peak #3 ... check out that bird nest! I'm in love! One of the things I love about my Layers of Color stamps is that they go together so well. And that bird nest is perfect for one of my favorite LOC stamps - the Warbler. As soon as I seen this patterned paper by Pink Paislee (Gypsy Chick), I knew exactly what I was using it for. The photo doesn't show it well, but the blue in the background is more of a blue/green.
These little cuties are from "Backyard Birds". It's so easy to create your own birdhouse.

Did you know it's Layers of Color's 3rd birthday??
I am so excited to be helping Laura celebrate on monday with a fun tea themed blog hop and we would love to have you join us as well. Lots of give-aways, so you don't want to miss it!

I love the Warbler image

I LOVE this stamp!  I had a lot of fun creating this one.  I even used my sewing machine.  I still hate changing out the thread color though.  It usually takes me multiple attempts to get the thread up from the bottom.  I think I need a sewing class, Ha!

I hope your week is filled with blessings!

Tempting Template - Umbrella

****** PUBLISHED IN THE AUGUST ISSUE OF STAMPER'S SAMPLER***

Good Morning Papercrafters.  Today I have a template card to share with you.  I LOVE Stampers Sampler and one of the things they publish in each  issue is a template or pattern.  They challenge their readers to create and submit a project using it.  The Feb/March issue had an umbrella pattern.  The April / May issue (on news stands now), has a mason jar pattern.  I can't wait to play with that one.  If you aren't able to purchase the magazine, then you can check out their "Tempting Templates" HERE.  Looks like they don't keep them up do date immediately.  The last ones were from August 2010.  If you really like the umbrella pattern, then check out what I found when I googled under images "umbrella coloring book" HERE.

I created the bird house myself.  I used my Spellbinders Classic Oval die set and my Grand Calibur to cut the opening.  The scallop along the roof line is hand cut.  The umbrella is paper-pieced and raffia was added to create a bird's nest.  And of course I had to add bird images by one my favorite stamp company, Layers of Color.
Sentiment - Sent With Love
DP - Pink Paislee 6x6 paperpad - 365 Degrees
(sorry, this one is retired)

If you decide to design your own umbrella card, I would love to check it out!  Just leave me a link.
Thanks for stopping by and have a very blessed week!

Did you know you can get the Grand Calibur at Hobby Lobby?  Hmmm ... wondering if that qualifies with the 40% off coupon.  Anybody know??

Nature Assortment

Good Morning Papercrafters.  I hope it is starting to warm up where you are.  It is absolutely be-u-tiful in Houston TX with HI's in the 70's the past week.  Bird's are chirping loudly to express their joy with this lovely weather as well.  So I think some spring oriented nature cards would be appropriate to post.

Stamps: Nature Walk and Backyard Birds art stamp sets.
Sentiment is by Lisa's Altered Arts.  I used some of my old 1920's music paper.
The bird cage in the background is one of those $1 stamps you can get at Michaels.

Stamps : Nature Walk (flourish), Vintage Roses, and Butterfly Collector art stamp sets.
Sentiment : Lisa's Altered Arts

One of my favorite techniques right now is anything I do with my Layers of Color art stencils.  This particular stencil is Botanical Swirls.   For this card I used modeling paste.  So easy and adds so much dimension.  You want to use a thick cardstock or watercolor paper though or the paper may buckle a little.  After it drys just brush on some ink.
CES wants us to use lace, one of my favorites!
And I LOVE it when I can find it in colors.  Another option is to by beige or white and spray is with color, paint it, or use your copic markers!

Creative Card Crew - thank you
