Gina K. Designs "Fall Foliage"

Hello friends.  I know "fall is in the air" for some of you ... sadly not here in Texas.  We are still in the mid 90's every day so far for September.  I am so ready for fall.  So I've started putting up all my fall decor.  I've started a fall banner for the mantel.  I have all the flags done ... just need to add some leaves between the banners.  Hopefully will be able to share that soon.

In the meantime you can check out a fall banner I made last year with a cool tutorial on how to make some textured leaves HERE.

Some of the ladies from the Stamp TV Center Stage Alumni are having a blog hop and here is the inspiration photo :

So I'm sure you will be able to find more fall inspiration based on this photo.
You can check it out HERE.

For today I want to share some cards I created using Gina K. Designs "Fall Foliage".  I will be adding some of these to my banner as well.  I wanted to play around and see what different looks I could get.  On the card above and on the last one, I stamped the image in brown ink over patterned paper.  I used my favorite brown ink Tsukineko - Brilliance "Pearlescent Chocolate".

But for this one I used my a rainbow ink pad.  This particular one is by Tsukineko - Kaleidacolor "Cappuccino Delight".  Gorgeous fall colors.  Tsukineko makes rainbow pads in lots of fun colors and you can check them out HERE.

On the card above I simply stamp over patterned paper again.  You could whip up fall cards very quickly with these beautiful images!

Have a blessed day!
Melisa

Fall Banner / Textured Leaf Tutorial

Hello paper crafters.   Today I want to share a fall banner I designed using  Pink Persimmon's "Big Banner with Rosettes" and "ATC Sized Background - Fairy Tale".    I'm also sharing a tutorial on how I created the leaf embellishments.  This little banner could easily be turned into a "Give Thanks" banner as well.  And .... for a casual dinner table, I think the leaf / button embellishments I made could be converted into a napkin ring holder.

This "Big Banner" set is so awesome!!  With this set you could create a banner for every holiday.  I didn't use the rosettes this time, so you have to hop over and check them out.

I love the texture and variation of color I was able to create on my die cut leaves with an embossing folder and acrylic paint.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!
If you create a banner using "Big Banner", I'd love to see your idea's.  I will need some inspiration for future holidays!
hugs,  Melisa

Project Details

Stamps : "Big Banner with Rosettes" and "ATC Sized Background Fairy Tale" Pink Persimmon
Check out Pink Persimmon stamps HERE.
Patterned Paper : Scenic Route Company - banner (old) and The Paper Studio - small leaves (Hobby Lobby)
Ink : Tsukineko "Pearlescent Chocolate"
Chipboard letters : The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)
Wooden Buttons : Favorite Findings (one of the local craft stores)
Twine : Papertrey Ink     Ribbon : Hug Snug seam binding
Acrylic Paint :  Various Americana colors
Spray Ink : Adirondack "Sunset Orange"
Die cut leaves : large - Creative Cuts and More, small - Provo Craft (old)
Embossing Folder : Cuttlebug "Textile Texture"
File set : Basic Grey (Hobby Lobby)

Stamp flag image on patterned paper and cream cardstock.  Trim around scallops of cream flags.  Trim around stitch line of patterned paper flags and adhere to cream flags.  Stamp script image on cream cardstock.  Adhere front of chipboard fonts to back of script image.  Trim around edges with exacto-knife.  File around edges with file set tools.  Ink edges and adhere to each banner.  Emboss leaf die cuts (I started with 2 orange maple and 3 brown oak).

The oak leaf was a dark brown.  Create more depth by layering on acrylic paint with your fingers.  I used a dark orange color here.

Add more paint. I used a cream on this one.

Here I lightly sprayed with Sunset Orange spray ink and then used a paper towel to soak some of it up.  It changed the color of the cream paint to a yellowish orange color.

I went back over with a dark brown here and there and then ink the edges brown.  Just keep layering until you get lots of different shades.

The maple leaf was a bright orange.  I started layering paint again beginning with a dark brown and then tan. Sprayed with the Sunset Orange and blotted off with paper towel.  Then added more paint and inked the edges.

Cut smaller leaves from patterned paper and ink edges.  Paint wooden buttons with cream paint and add twine bows.  Layer leaves and buttons.  Punch holes in each end of each flag.  Thread seam binding through.  Adhere leaf embellishments.

Denami Challenge Card

A while back I won a store credit from Denami from Stampin' Sisters in Christ.  I fell in love with the little chick images they carry.   They have them for lots of different occasions.  This set is called "Pilgrim Chickies".   You can check out the sentiment HERE.  Aren't they cute!!  I got a Christmas set as well.  I designed this one for this month's Denami Challenge.

I was inspired by this sketch

over at Try Stampin on Tues.  Unfortunately, I didn't update my list this week so this one is closed already.   The little leaves I used are the negative spaces of one of my Martha Stewart border punches.  The pattern paper is really old from my stash.

I hope you have a great week!

Mini Album #7 : So Thankful Altered Altoid Tin

Hello paper crafters.   I realized I had not posted since Aug 31st!  Boy does time fly.  Did I mention I started a new job??  I'm working more hours than I had been and it's really interferring with my creative mojo.  So after a long week, I decided I needed some shopping therapy.    I made the long drive to my not so local scrapbook store on Saturday - Archivers.  I hadn't been to one in greater than 6 months because they are all 50 min away.  So most my shopping has been online or at my local craft stores (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Joann's).  I was like a kid in a candy store!!  It was a little overwhelming though because I was trying to select things for so many different things, since I don't go that often.  I'm trying to do more scrapbooking, and I wanted to pick up some supplies to create a few Pink Persimmon projects.  As well as some things to use for future pub calls.  I was in there for hours!

So tonight I wanted to share this little altered altoid tin I have had forever ... but never posted.  The supplies are so old, I'm not even going to list them.  But hopefully you can still get some inspiration from it.  In the photo above, you can see to strips of ribbon coming out of the tin.  these are adhered across the back of the last page and can be tied together in a bow.  I use them to lift the album out of the tin.

I'm also going to post a step by step tutorial on "how to alter an altoid tin".  So this will be a long one!

So basically, I cut lots of little mini pages with rounded corners.  I used strips of cardstock to "hold or bind" the pages together.

After adhering the strips to the back side of the front of the pages you can see in the photo's, I covered the backs of each page and the binding strips with another page.

Then I embellished each page with little pockets and pages that flip up exposing more photo's.

I used decorative scissors, stamps, and flower punches to embellish my little album.

Altering an Altoid Tin

In the past I have altered quite a few altoid tins.  I just thought they made the cutest little mini-albums and the tin protected the mini-album so well.  I actually created a template for the top of the lid, so I can quickly trace and cut those round corners.  After I made one out of paper, I converted it to chipboard.  I have another altered tin tutorial that shows you how to stamp on tissue paper.  It's actually a little bigger.  It's one of the gift tins from Michaels.  You can check out the step by step tutorial for that one HERE.

For this particular project I sanded down the edges of the tin.

I rubbed black Staz-on ink around the edges.

Trimmed out pattered paper for the top and bottom by sitting it on the back of the patterned paper, tracing around the edges with a pencil and then trimming a little inside that pencil line.  I also cut strips of paper to cover the sides by wrapping it around the tin.  I inked all the edges then used Mod Podge to adhere all the paper to the tin.  Easy!!

November Events - Mark your calendars!

Hello Paper Crafters.  It's been a while and it's good to be back.  Let me begin by asking for you prayers for a local student of mine who had to be rushed for emergency open heart surgery over the weekend. Her name is Pat.  Thanks so much for your prayers.

I had a wonderful vacation visiting with family for the past week in GA.  But it's time to get back in the swing of things.  So I'm spending the day catching up on laundry, grocery shopping, trying to figure out what I need to create next, and uploading photo's to gallery's.  I'm happy to report the cat survived while we were gone.  We had a neighbor come over and give him fresh water while we were gone.  My bird feeders were empty though, so the first thing I did was give them fresh water and refill my feeders.  Shortly after doing so my Cardnal showed up.  Week before last I had a pair of Grackles.  It was fun to see a new species come around.  But they didn't seen too interested in the bird feeders, and I haven't seen them since.

It's finally cooling down here in TX and it looks like the high for the next couple of days is 78-79.  So I thought it would be fitting to post a fall card.  I used "Autumn Fun" by Mark's Finest Papers.  I have to tell you shortly after we left to go out of town I received an email announcing that Mark's Finest Papers was under new ownership.  I was so surprised.  I would link you to the set, but it's not up in the store at this time.  The new ownership pulled down almost all the stamp sets and looks like they are finally adding some back on now.  So honestly, I'm not sure if this one is going to make the cut or not.  But the word is that they are going to be adding tons of new images, and it looks like it has already started.

Mark's Finest Papers has a HUGE Pre-Inventory sale going on right now as well.  In addition to the advertised sale (25% off select items, no coupon needed) on their home page, you can save more (additional 15% off everything, including sale items using HEIN15 promo code).  You want find the promo code on the home page, it was for email subscribers.  A good reason to sign up for their email newsletters, because you never know what other sales them may have coming up as they fade out old images, making room for new ones.
